There is no single service interval that is correct for every vehicle. The appropriate interval depends on the manufacturer’s schedule, engine, mileage, age, use and sometimes the vehicle’s own service indicator.
Start with the manufacturer schedule
Check the handbook, digital service information or manufacturer guidance for your particular vehicle. Some maintenance items are mileage-based, some time-based and others have separate replacement schedules.
Low mileage does not mean no maintenance
Vehicles that cover relatively few miles can still require time-based maintenance. Fluids, filters, batteries, brakes and tyres can deteriorate with age as well as mileage.
Do not wait for the next service if something changes
Warning lights, fluid loss, unusual noises, vibration, braking changes, poor starting or changes in handling should be investigated when they occur rather than waiting for a scheduled service.
